A charming vintage Baluch rug from Afghanistan, featuring a plain field against which several large medallions are set. In the spaces between them, the weaver has added four smaller medallions, creating an interesting and well-balanced composition.
For the border, the weaver chose the protective “S” motif and rendered it on a particularly large scale, making it a striking feature of the design.
The rug is woven with beautiful, soft sheep’s wool. The side cords have been reinforced and bound with goat hair, providing additional strength and durability.

The Beluch or Baluch are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region, located at the southeasternmost edge of the Iranian plateau, encompassing the countries of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. There are also Baloch diaspora communities in neighbouring regions, including in India, Turkmenistan and the Arabian Peninsula.
