Are you looking for a vintage rug with an original and unusual design? This Baluch rug has it! The composition has been organized in a grid representing a traditional Persian garden, divided into compartments.

The name Persian Garden refers to a tradition and a style of garden design that originated in Persia. Traditionally these gardens were “enclosed spaces”.

The Persian word (in Avestan) to define “enclosed space” was pairi-daeza which was transmitted, in Judeo-Christian mythology, under the name of Paradise, the Garden of Eden.

On a background of undyed natural wool, different motifs have been arranged in horizontal cartouches. The range of colors is original and different from those usually used by the women of the Baluch tribe. The multiple borders have an elaborate composition. The wool is soft and the hair long.

Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool

Size: 264×159 cms

Origin: Baluch tribe from Afghanistan

Date of weaving: 1960s
