Wow, What a Rug!
A semi-antique Baluch rug with a truly wonderful abrash — beautiful and unexpected colour variations running through the main red field.
The colours shift gradually from deep red to pink, purple, terracotta, and through every imaginable shade in between. The palette is particularly unusual, with a background that moves between soft pink and purple, punctuated by touches of deep blue.
Against this richly shifting, wavy background, the güls seem to float, surrounded by sinuous curves that give the field a wonderful sense of movement.
Although the weaver was a Baluch woman, she was inspired by traditional Uzbek güls, interpreting them in her own distinctive way. The result is a wonderfully naïve and charming interpretation of the motif — full of character and spontaneity.
And then there is the pile: exceptionally thick, soft and plush, something that is difficult to capture in a photograph. It is the kind of rug that simply invites you to take off your shoes.
Perfect for walking barefoot.

The Beluch or Baluch are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region, located at the southeasternmost edge of the Iranian plateau, encompassing the countries of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. There are also Baloch diaspora communities in neighbouring regions, including in India, Turkmenistan and the Arabian Peninsula.
