A lovely antique Luri rug with a field filled with elegantly rendered palmettes, arranged diagonally by colour. The spaces left between the main motifs are enriched with scattered decorative elements.. The navy blue spandrels have a freer, more spontaneous feel, with numerous small geometric and vegetal motifs arranged in an open, seemingly effortless manner.
In contrast, the borders have a more structured and orderly character, providing a pleasing sense of balance and definition to the overall design.
All the dyes are natural, with a beautiful pistachio green, ochre, and a wide range of blues, all set against a rich deep terracotta background. The wool is exceptionally soft and lustrous. The rug has a full pile, with some areas showing a medium pile height.

Lurs (or Lors) are an Iranian people living mainly in western and southwestern Iran. There is also a significant population of Lurs in eastern and central parts of Iraq The word Luristan or Lorestan, is attributed to the areas inhabited by the Lurs. The boundaries of Luristan stretch from the eastern Iraqi plains to the west and southwest of Iran. Today, Lorestan is the name of one of the western provinces of Iran. Luristan´s rugged terrain, which still bars easy access from Iraq, favored integrity of style. The Luri wool tends to be soft and shinny.
