A delightful semi-antique Turkmen rug of unusually small proportions, yet with a design that belongs to a very different scale. Its bold geometric composition, more commonly seen on larger Afghan rugs, creates an intriguing contrast with the intimate size of this little piece. It is precisely this unexpected combination that gives the rug so much character.
The central composition is filled with geometric medallions and smaller angular motifs, arranged in a dense and harmonious pattern. It is easy to imagine the weaver taking inspiration from a much larger rug and skilfully translating its design into this diminutive format. All the dyes are natural.
The wool is wonderfully soft and naturally lustrous, with a rich, full pile that has retained its original sheen. Underfoot, it has an exceptionally pleasant and luxurious feel. Its compact size makes it an ideal choice beside a bed, where its soft pile is especially inviting to bare feet first thing in the morning.
