Vintage Qashqai Kilim – Natural Elegance in Camel Wool

This vintage Qashqai kilim sofreh features a central field woven with undyed camel wool, creating a surface rich in stunning abrash—natural color variations that give the piece incredible depth and movement. In this case, the abrash itself becomes the main decorative element, making additional motifs or patterns unnecessary.

A simple, narrow border woven in sheep’s wool frames the piece delicately, drawing attention to the beauty of the central field.

This subtle and sophisticated design is perfect for Scandinavian interiors or any space in need of calm, neutral tones.

Material: 100% hand-spun camel wool and sheep wool

Size: 154×96 cms

Origin: Qashqai tribe, Iran

Date of weaving: 1980s

Sofrehs take their name from the Farsi (Persian) word for cloth and are used for several functions connected with preparing and eating food. Eating cloths are normally referred to simply as sofrehs and vary enormously in size-from small, rectangular mats for personal use to extremelly long, narrow runners for communal eating. They are woven in several standard techniques, including alternating bands of kilim and pile rug, and produced by a number of nomadic and tribal weavers in Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia and to a lesser degree, elsewhere.
