A semi-antique Yaqoob Khani Baluch rug from Afghanistan featuring an unusual and distinctive design arranged in a grid of four compartments. Within each square panel, a large vase with a plant is woven and portrayed in a relatively naturalistic style.
The two lower compartments contain larger vases with plants that fill the entire space, while the two upper panels show smaller vases enclosed within a sinuous decorative motif, giving them a more compact appearance.
The main border is decorated with eight-petaled flowers set against an undyed wool background, creating a striking contrast. The outer guard border features a repeating pattern of eight-pointed stars.
The wool is exceptionally soft and lustrous—truly wonderful quality that is difficult to fully appreciate in photographs. All dyes used in the rug are natural.
