Fiery Qashqai Semi-Antique Kilim – Vibrant Colour
This semi-antique Qashqai kilim radiates heat and energy, with a fiery orange tone dominating the main field. The intense colour serves as a vivid backdrop for a series of traditional motifs arranged diagonally by colour. On closer inspection, subtle variations in the tones of some motifs become visible—charming irregularities that reveal the weaver’s hand and lend the piece a unique character.
An unusual green also makes a rare and striking appearance, standing out boldly against the warmer hues.
True to Qashqai weaving traditions, the weaver worked freely and intuitively. In areas where she left open spaces, she later introduced small filler motifs, adding balance and movement to the overall composition. A beautiful abrash—the natural variation in dye tones across the field—adds further depth and texture.
The main border mirrors the colours of the central field, creating a harmonious frame. At two ends of the kilim, the weaver employed a weft-floating technique to create distinctive end borders, a decorative and skillful finish.
This is a piece full of life, spontaneity, and the charm of true tribal craftsmanship.

Turkic-speaking pastoral nomadic tribal groups began entering central and southern Iran during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The Qashqai, as a large tribal unit, dates back at least to the early eighteenth century, when some Turkish(Turki)-speaking tribal groups in the region existed under the name Qashqai.
Qashqai kilims are best known for their boldness and freedom in the way the pattern is drawn. An aesthetically pleasing geometry, the fineness of their wool and their clear, strong colours combine to ensure their reputation as superlative examples.
