A semi-antique Luri kilim with a pleasant colour palette.
This Luri kilim features a design composed of the Qashqai emblem, arranged diagonally across a soft pink ground. The weaver charmingly miscalculated the available space: in some rows she filled the gaps with smaller supplementary motifs, while in others she left areas intentionally empty, giving the kilim a lively and spontaneous character.
The green border displays a beautiful and rare shade, enhanced by a striking abrash with subtle color variations. The black Laleh Abbasi border—typically used as a narrow secondary border—appears here as a bold main border, though it is present only along the two longer sides of the kilim, an unusual and visually intriguing choice.
The warp is made of black goat hair, clearly visible in the fringes.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool and goat hair for warp
Size: 232×132 cms
Origin: Luri or Lori tribe
Date of weaving: 1950s
Lurs (or Lors) are an Iranian people living mainly in western and southwestern Iran. There is also a significant population of Lurs in eastern and central parts of Iraq The word Luristan or Lorestan, is attributed to the areas inhabited by the Lurs. The boundaries of Luristan stretch from the eastern Iraqi plains to the west and southwest of Iran. Today, Lorestan is the name of one of the western provinces of Iran. Luristan´s rugged terrain, which still bars easy access from Iraq, favored integrity of style. The Luri wool tends to be soft and shinny.
