Semi-Antique Baluch Rug
A semi-antique Baluch rug in a wonderfully versatile size, perfect for a hallway or short corridor.
The field is divided into eight compartments, echoing the layout of traditional Islamic gardens. Within this geometric grid, we can see stylised trees and bushes, while the eight squares are separated by water channels, represented here as colourful chevrons.
The rug features a combination of natural and aniline dyes, reflecting the period of transition taking place in Afghanistan during the 1940s, when traditional plant- and mineral-based dyes were gradually giving way to chemical dyes.
The pile is lower in some areas, but remains stable and is ready for use, including in a high-traffic area. The wool is soft and lustrous, giving the rug a particularly pleasant feel and subtle sheen.

The Beluch or Baluch are an Iranian people who live mainly in the Balochistan region, located at the southeasternmost edge of the Iranian plateau, encompassing the countries of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. There are also Baloch diaspora communities in neighbouring regions, including in India, Turkmenistan and the Arabian Peninsula.
