Everything one might expect to find in a large Qashqai rug is present here, skilfully translated into a wonderfully small scale: a central Qashqai medallion, multiple borders, spandrels, and an abundance of intricate detail. Despite its diminutive size, the weaver has managed to accommodate an extraordinarily rich and complete composition, leaving virtually no part of the rug undecorated.
The weaving is necessarily exceptionally tight, with a high knot count that allows such a complex and detailed design to be achieved within such a small format. The result is a remarkable little rug in which the precision of the weaving is every bit as impressive as the design itself.

Turkic-speaking pastoral nomadic tribal groups began entering central and southern Iran during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The Qashqai, as a large tribal unit, dates back at least to the early eighteenth century, when some Turkish(Turki)-speaking tribal groups in the region existed under the name Qashqai.
Qashqai kilims are best known for their boldness and freedom in the way the pattern is drawn. An aesthetically pleasing geometry, the fineness of their wool and their clear, strong colours combine to ensure their reputation as superlative examples.
