An exceptional and elegant 1940s Baluch rug. The composition features four large güls set against an open, unadorned field, allowing the design to breathe with a sense of quiet sophistication. The field displays a beautiful abrash—subtle color variations within the same hue—ranging from rich reds and warm terracotta to a distinctive area of soft purple in the upper left.
Within each gül, the weaver has intricately rendered delicate three-petaled floral motifs. The intentional use of empty space enhances the rug’s restrained and harmonious aesthetic.
Crafted from exceptionally soft, lustrous wool, this piece offers a gentle sheen that is difficult to capture in photographs. Its luxurious texture makes it especially appealing for those who appreciate the comfort of walking barefoot or sitting on the floor.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 261×128 cms
Origin: Baluch tribe from Afghanistan
Date of weaving: 1940s
