Semi-Antique Baluch Rug – Bold Guls and Warm Tones
A semi-antique Baluch rug from Afghanistan featuring warm, inviting colors. This rug stands out for its unique design, showcasing two oversized guls set against a plain salmon background with a striking abrash, or natural color variation. The palette is restrained to just three colors — salmon, brown, and orange — which draws the eye entirely to the dramatic oversized motifs.
The pile varies from low to medium to high across different areas, adding texture and depth, while the soft wool ensures a pleasant feel underfoot. The warps, visible in the fringes, are made of goat hair, highlighting the traditional craftsmanship of this exquisite Baluch piece.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 173×107 cms
Origin: Baluch tribe from Afghanistan
Date of weaving: 1950s
