Semi- Antique Qashqai Rug with Warm Autumn Tones
This semi-antique Qashqai rug showcases a rich palette of warm autumn tones, creating an earthy and distinctive color scheme. Subtle variations in shade, known as abrash, add depth and character, making the piece especially captivating.
The design features three striking medallions that dominate the main field, while the surrounding space is filled with smaller, free-form motifs arranged in a seemingly spontaneous way. A particularly charming detail is found in the navy-blue border: when the weaver reached the upper edge, the design no longer fit perfectly, so she reimagined the layout with a unique horizontal arrangement of the motif.
The dark fringes reveal a goat-hair warp, a hallmark of rugs woven in rustic, nomadic settings. This suggests the piece was created for practical use within a family or clan, rather than for trade along commercial routes.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool and goat hair for the warp

Turkic-speaking pastoral nomadic tribal groups began entering central and southern Iran during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The Qashqai, as a large tribal unit, dates back at least to the early eighteenth century, when some Turkish(Turki)-speaking tribal groups in the region existed under the name Qashqai.
Qashqai kilims are best known for their boldness and freedom in the way the pattern is drawn. An aesthetically pleasing geometry, the fineness of their wool and their clear, strong colours combine to ensure their reputation as superlative examples.
