Fiery Red Vintage Qashqai Kilim with Tribal Charm
This vibrant vintage Persian Qashqai kilim glows in a fiery red tone and showcases exceptionally finely spun wool, allowing for an intricate and detailed design. The central field features the traditional Qashqai emblem arranged in three vertical columns, with seven medallions in each. While the medallions share a similar shape, the weaver used different colors, repeating them diagonally to create rhythm and harmony within the pattern.
What truly sets this kilim apart is its wonderfully improvised structure. In the upper part, the weaver did not strictly follow the horizontal alignment, resulting in the left side of the field being slightly narrower. To compensate and achieve a balanced, straight-edged finish, she cleverly wove a wider outer border on that side.
The result? A one-of-a-kind tribal kilim full of personality, spontaneity, and authentic craftsmanship.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 188×139 cms
Origin: Qashqai tribe, Iran
Date of weaving: 2000s
Turkic-speaking pastoral nomadic tribal groups began entering central and southern Iran during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The Qashqai, as a large tribal unit, dates back at least to the early eighteenth century, when some Turkish(Turki)-speaking tribal groups in the region existed under the name Qashqai.
Qashqai kilims are best known for their boldness and freedom in the way the pattern is drawn. An aesthetically pleasing geometry, the fineness of their wool and their clear, strong colours combine to ensure their reputation as superlative examples.
