This rug is an exceptional example of an antique carpet from the Laberduni tribe of Iran, evoking a Persian garden or Paradise. Despite the age of the rug, it retains its long pile, indicating that it was a precious object to its owner and was probably used on a few occasions. This rug has decades of life ahead of it, perhaps another century.
The central field has a classic design made up of three medallions, but this rug is distinguished from other similar ones by the abundance of vegetation and birds inside each medallion. In addition, the central field is full of birds, bushes, flowers and trees, seemingly randomly woven. The more formal woven border with geometric motifs contrasts with the central field of the rug, which is more asymmetrical and improvised.
The impressive range of colors has been obtained using only natural dyes.

Arab nomads of Fars Province, Iran, are descended from certain Arab tribes of Najd, Yammaneh and Omman who migrated in the 7th and 8th centuries following the Arab contest (640 A.D.) and the advent of Islam. They speak a corruption of Arabic and Persian.
Althoug Arab nomad piled production encompasses a great and astonishing variety of designs, with field patterns much more varied than other tribes of Fars, the Arab weaver´s adherance to a generally dark and sober palette has denied them the artistic recognition they deserve.
