Horse Textiles : from the 19th Century to 1950
From the 9th of Aril until the 3rd of May we are pleased to present an exhibition "Horse Textiles : from the 19th Century to 1950" In this exhibition you can see textiles related to horses, such as saddlebags, horse blankets, saddle covers, horsebands (flatwoven bands to tie goods to the animals), ornamental bands for the chest, rear and forehead and lots more. These textiles have been collected over ten years and are testament to a disappearing way of life. Traditionally the horses were decorated for special occasions, weddings or migrations. In the same way the nomads also put on their best outfits for those days. With the disappearance of the nomadic way of life the textiles have begun to disappear as well. Today the majority of the nomads have settled and those that continue migrating often move their animals and posessions in in trucks and four-wheel drives. The textiles that decorated their horses and mules for centuries are no longer required.
